To provide an imaging apparatus capable of simultaneously generating a wide dynamic range image from images, which are taken at the same time, have parallax, and are different in an exposure amount, and measuring a distance to a subject.
An imaging apparatus 1 comprises cameras 100 and 101 for generating a plurality of images having parallax and different in an exposure amount, image luminance adjustment units 200 and 201 for adjusting brightness of the plurality of images based on the exposure amount, matching units 21 and 22 for executing image matching using the plurality of images whose brightness is adjusted to find matching information, a distance calculation unit 31 for finding a distance to a predetermined subject based on the matching information, a position calibration unit 24 for calibrating a position of the images so as to eliminate the parallax of the images having the parallax based on the matching information, and a wide dynamic range image generation unit 32 for synthesizing the plurality of images different in the exposure amount whose positions are calibrated by the position calibration unit 24 to generate an image having a dynamic range wider than images taken by the cameras 100 and 101.
