An imaging apparatus comprises: a CMOS 3 for outputting optical images of a subject as image signals via a imaging lens part with a variable power lens 1B; a zoom control part for moving at least one of the CMOS 3 and the variable power lens 1B along the optical axis of the imaging lens part so as to change the relative position of the CMOS 3 and the variable power lens 1B, based on the change instructions for instructing the magnification change of the optical images of the subject output as image signals; thereby performing imaging processing in a predetermined imaging mode. The imaging apparatus also comprises a state holding part with which upon reception of the change instructions, the imaging mode is set as a pan focus mode, and based on the change of magnification, the change to the relative position can be performed by the zoom control part, while maintaining the pan focus state.
