To provide an imaging apparatus and an imaging method for recording an optical image as image data, which obtain the image data in which inclination at the time of imaging is corrected without sacrificing resolution and size and without regard to skill of a user.
The imaging apparatus comprises: imaging means 202 which has a light-receiving surface receiving the light of an optical image and images the optical image by outputting an electric signal corresponding to the optical image having entered the light-receiving surface; a casing 10 which holds the imaging means; rotation means which rotates the imaging means around a rotation axis vertical to the light-receiving surface with respect to the casing; inclination detection means 40 which detects the rolling inclination angle of the casing with respect to the vertical direction, around the rotation axis; and image data creation means which creates the image data on the basis of an image imaged by the imaging means while the rotation means rotates and positions the imaging means at a predetermined rotation angle in accordance with the rolling inclination angle of the casing detected by the inclination detection means.
