The imaging apparatus includes: an image pickup device driven by a rolling shutter; a stroboscope for performing light emission operation, where light is emitted at least once during one frame period; and a control section for calculating the amount of light emission of the stroboscope in main photographing after the preliminary light emission, based on first luminance information on images obtained in a first region, where exposure is performed so that time when the stroboscope emits light in the image pickup device is included in exposure time, in the preliminary light emission, and second luminance information on images obtained in a second region, where exposure is performed so that time when the stroboscope emits light in the image pickup device is not included in the exposure time.
