The imaging apparatus includes an imaging unit for imaging a subject and generating image data of the subject, an operation input unit for receiving input of an operation signal containing a release signal for instructing the imaging unit to perform shooting, an underwater detecting part for detecting whether the imaging apparatus is underwater, an acceleration detecting part for detecting an acceleration of the imaging apparatus, and a control unit for performing operation control determined corresponding to a remainder obtained by dividing the number of times of detecting pulse-shaped acceleration by the total number of operation contents that can be set underwater when the underwater detecting part detects that the imaging apparatus is underwater and when the acceleration detecting part detects the pulse-shaped acceleration which has a magnitude larger than a predetermined value.
