To provide an imaging apparatus such as a digital camera allowing zoom driving at higher speed without performing unnecessary electronic zooming in a framing assist and the like.

The imaging apparatus includes: optical zooming means which drives a zoom lens 202 and optically changes a focal distance; electronic zooming means which electronically enlarges a photographed image; and control means 201. The control means controls the zooming means so that the zoom driving is performed only by the optical zooming means from a wide-angle end to a telephoto end during an operation of a first operation member and the zoom driving is performed only by the electronic zooming means at a tip side from the telephoto end. The control means controls the zooming means so that the optical zooming means and the electronic zooming means are driven in driving toward an optical zooming position and an electronic zooming position, which correspond to a prescribed zooming position, during an operation of a second operation member.
