To provide an imaging apparatus capable of setting a suitable use mode according to an object.
An imaging apparatus comprises: an information acquisition part for acquiring information concerned with an object; and a control part for performing use mode switching control for switching a set first use mode to a different second use mode based on the acquired information. The first use mode is a strobe forced emission mode for forcibly performing strobe light emission during an image pickup period. The information acquisition part acquires information concerned with brightness of the object as information concerned with the object by performing photometry. The control part performs the use mode switching control based on the information concerned with the brightness of the object and time information.
