To obtain a photographic image without a ghost or a flare while carrying out an accurate focus detection.
A half mirror 21 is moved between a mirror down position for dividing subject luminous flux L passing through a photographic lens 10a into reflecting luminous flux L1 and transmitting luminous flux L2 and a mirror up position for guiding the subject luminous flux L to an imaging element 22 by evading from an optical path of the subject luminous flux L. A luminance determination section 27c determines whether or not a subject luminance is a prescribed threshold or more on the basis of a luminance detection signal of a subject image from a photometric sensor 24 in the mirror down position. When the subject luminance is less than the prescribed threshold, a second focus adjustment section 27b carries out focus adjustment on the basis of a focus detection signal from an AF sensor 23 and images a subject image of the transmitting luminous flux L2. When the subject luminance is the prescribed threshold or more, the half mirror 21 is driven to the mirror up position, a first focus adjustment section 27a carries out focus adjustment on the basis of the focus detection signal from the imaging element 22 and the subject image of the subject luminous flux L is imaged.
