To provide an imaging apparatus capable of suppressing heat generation of an electromagnet when performing long-time exposure, and also suppressing reduction in exposure accuracy when performing high speed exposure.

In a digital camera 1, a front curtain 410 and a rear curtain 420 are moved to an exposure start position by release operation, have a driving force charged in a travel direction, and are suction-held by a front curtain electromagnet 413 and a rear curtain electromagnet 423 (steps S1 to S4). Next, exposure is started by turning off energization to the front curtain electromagnet 413 and making the front curtain 410 travel, and the supply power to the rear curtain electromagnet 423 is reduced when performing long-time exposure (steps S5 to S9).
