The imaging device includes: a light metering part 109 that guides incident light via a lens device 102 to an optical finder and meters the light; a light shield part 111 (for example, a PNLCD) that has a first state of transmitting the incident light and a second state of shielding or reducing the incident light; and a strobe 112 as a light emission device. A control part 101 controls the light shield part 111 and the strobe 112, and acquires a light metering value from the light metering part 109. When communicating with an external device by light emission of the strobe 112, control means 101 controls the light shield part 111 to change over to the second state, and controls the light shield part 111 to change over to the first state after the light emission of the strobe 112 is ended. After the light emission of the strobe 112 is ended, the light metering part 109 meters the light to output the light metering value to the control part 101.
