A digital camera 10 has a finder device 15 capable of simultaneously observing information indicated in a liquid crystal display device 61 and an object image viewed from an object side finer window 16 through an eyepiece window 17, and an imaging element 21a for imaging the object. A CPU 32 executes display brightness control including a processing for obtaining the information of brightness of the object to be imaged by the digital camera 10, by using an imaging signal which can be obtained by imaging with the imaging element 21a, a processing for controlling the display brightness of the liquid crystal display device 61 to be a value corresponding to the information of the brightness, and a processing for turning off the imaging element 21a after obtaining the information of the brightness, since the camera 10 was started till shooting operation to the camera 10 is carried out to start the imaging element 21a.
