Abstract:

To image an object in the optimum exposure state and in a state of securing a predetermined dynamic range.

An image pickup device is provided with an image pickup sensor 30 (30a) having a photoelectric conversion characteristic consisting of a linear characteristic area where an electrical signal is linearly converted with respect to an amount of an incident light and outputted, and a logarithmic characteristic area where the electrical signal is logarithmically converted with respect to the amount of the incident light and outputted; an evaluation value detecting unit 405 for detecting exposure evaluation values concerning an exposure control on the basis of a luminance information of the object; and an entire control unit 50 (50a) (exposure control means) for controlling the exposure on the basis of the exposure evaluation values detected by the unit 405. The entire control unit 50 (50a) is provided with an exposure amount control parameter calculator 511 (511a) for controlling an exposure amount on the basis of the photoelectric conversion characteristic using the exposure evaluation values, and a dynamic range control parameter calculator 512 (512a) for controlling a dynamic range on the basis of the photoelectric conversion characteristic using the exposure evaluation values.
