To provide an imaging device preventing imaging from being started by detecting an unintended object when imaging is performed by detecting the object.
When face information is detected by a face detecting unit 101 (T1), the number of faces is determined using the number of pieces of face information detected once in a first face number deciding process "A" before a SW1 is turned on (T2). On the other hand, chattering is started at a timing (T3) when a face is detected by the face detecting unit 101, and a detection result of a predetermined number of times (5 times) is referenced in a face number deciding process "B" which is executed after a SW2 is turned on. When the face number is maintained, the face is included into the face number for the first time (T4). In other words, only the face detected 5 times continuously by the face detecting unit 101 is counted as the number of faces. The imaging process by a face self timer mode is not started, therefore, even if an unintended passer-by enters a screen.
