An imaging apparatus includes: an imaging device (1) which converts an optical image of an object into an electric signal and outputs the converted electric signal sequentially as an image signal; addition means (3, 21) for adding image signals for a plurality of frames output from the imaging device and generating an added image signal for one frame; and control means (8, 9, 15) for controlling the number of frames to be added by the addition means in accordance with a purpose of use of the image signal obtained by addition performed by the addition means.
