To provide an image pickup device and its operation control method which can prevent a flicker of a face frame.
A subject to be photographed is repeated at fixed intervals, whereby a subject image is displayed on a display screen 60 as shown in (A). A principal face image and a face image are detected, and a principal face frame 61 and a face frame 62 are displayed as shown in (B). As shown in (C), even if an obstacle enters a principal face frame 61 and the principal face image cannot be recognized, the principal face frame 61 is displayed for a given holding time. Even if the given holding time passes, if the principal face image recognized first cannot be recognized, the other face image is used as a principal face image, and the principal face frame 61 is displayed as shown in (D).
