To enable decision of an upper limit of sensitivity of an image sensor depending an actual noise generation situation in an imaging device.
A video camera as an imaging device receives light, and converts the received light into an electrical signal to take an image by an image sensor. While taking images consecutively, one frame image 24 among a plurality of frame images 21-26 taken consecutively is set to be an image for inspection. When taking the image 24 (the image for inspection), an exposure time is set to be the minimum and the sensitivity is set to be maximum. A level of noise appeared in the image 24 is measured, and an upper limit of the sensitivity is decided based on the measured level of the noise. The sensitivity is controlled within a range not exceeding the decided upper limit of the sensitivity. The images 21-23 are displayed as display output images 31-33, the image 24 is replaced by the image 23 and displayed as a display output image 34, and the images 25 and 26 are displayed as display output images 35 and 36.
