An imaging device 1 includes a polarization filter 21 for reflecting the light of a polarization direction component which is perpendicular to a transmission axis in the incident display light as first linear polarization light and a retroreflection section 23 into which the first linear polarization light reflected by the polarization filter 21 makes incidence for making the incident first linear polarization light vary the polarization direction and carrying out retroreflection thereof as second linear polarization light having the polarization direction which is perpendicular to the polarization direction of the first linear polarization light. The second linear polarization light reflected by the retroreflection section 23 is transmitted through a polarization filter 21 and a real image 40 expressing a display image 12 is focused on a surface side of the polarization filter 21. The polarization filter 21 is arranged in a configuration and/or an angle for reflecting the light of the polarization direction component that is perpendicular to the transmission axis of the external light made incident from the surface side toward directions other than a view point of an observer, a line of sight of the observer and the real image.
