To provide an imaging device that makes it possible to reduce a time required for the re-start of imaging operation after photographing.
An imaging device has a focal plane shutter including an imaging element that photoelectrically converts a subject image to generate image signals, a shutter ground plate that includes an opening, a blade group that opens and closes the opening to regulate exposure to the imaging element, a blade driving member that drives the blade group, a drive spring that urges the blade driving member, and a charge member that charges the drive spring; and the blade driving member is driven in conjunction with a charge operation of the drive spring to cause the blade group to release the opening. The imaging device starts the charge operation after the start of a read-out operation of image signals and before completion of the read-out of the image signals; and sets the start timing of the charge operation so that the blade group releases the opening while leading edges of the blade group are separated from a read-out position of the image signals by a predetermined distance during the charge operation.
