Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image pickup device having a small-sized optical system which is variable in optical characteristics and is well corrected in various aberrations by providing this device with the optical system consisting of a diaphragm, a front group consisting of an optical characteristic variable optical element which is arranged near the diaphragm and has an effect of a concave lens and a rear group which is arranged behind (on an image side) of the front group and has at least a concave face and a convex face. SOLUTION: This zoom lens comprises the front group of negative refracting power consisting of a variable focus leans 21A having a concave effect, the diaphragm 26 and the rear group consisting of a variable focus lens 21B having a convex effect and a convex lens 29 and have positive refracting power as a whole. The focal length of the variable focus lenses 21A and 21B are changed without mechanically moving the respective lenses, by which the focal length of the entire part of the lens system may be changed and the movement of the image plane may be corrected. Similarly, focusing may be executed. The example changes the frequency of an electric field to 4 stages and liquid crystals changed in the code of dielectric anisotropy by frequencies are used as liquid crystals.
