To perform optimal control according to the direction and magnitude of a shake.SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus has: a pan rotation unit for performing pan rotation of the imaging apparatus; a tilt rotation unit for performing tilt rotation of the imaging apparatus; a detection unit that detects the magnitude and direction of a shake; and a control unit that, in accordance with the fact detected by the detection unit whether the magnitude of a shake in a predetermined direction exceeds a predetermined threshold, controls whether to perform a vibration-proof operation with the pan rotation unit or the tilt rotation unit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
