To obtain an image of a high frame rate at a low cost by using an imaging means of a low frame rate.
An imaging apparatus is provided with: first and second imaging sections 1A, 1B; a half mirror 2 for branching an image of an object H in two directions; a timing control section 3 for controlling imaging timing in the first and second imaging sections 1A, 1B; and an interpolation processing section 4 for interpolating inter-frames of images F1, F3, F5,... picked up by the first imaging section 1A with images F2, F4, F6,... picked up by the second imaging section 2B. Since the inter-frames of the images picked up by the first imaging section 1A are interpolated by the images picked up by the second imaging section 1B in the images outputted from the interpolation processing section 4, the frame rates of the images outputted from the interpolation processing section 4 are twice compared with those of the first and second imaging sections 1A, 1B. Thus, the image of a high frame rate can be obtained at a low cost by using a conventional imaging element of a low frame rate in compliance with the existing signal format.
