Abstract:
PURPOSE: To print a high resolution durable image using a phase-change ink.
CONSTITUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises a rotary drum 14, a temperature control means 28 for stabilizing the surface temperature of the rotary drum to a specified level, means for forming an intermediate transfer surface of a liquid layer on the surface of the rotary drum, an ink jet print head 11 for forming an image of phase change ink on the intermediate transfer surface, and a medium preheater 27 for setting a print medium at a predetermined temperature wherein an image is transferred onto the print medium by feeding it between the rotary drum and a transfer roll biased toward the drum.
