PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new metal complex which is a blue luminescent material showing stable luminous characteristics for a long period of time, useful for an organic electric field luminous element stable in blue luminous characteristics, high luminous efficacy and high brightness, comprising a specific imidazole metal complex.
SOLUTION: This new imidazole metal complex is shown by formula I [A is a halogen, cyano, nitro, carboxyl, a hydroxyl group, a (substituted) alkyl, a (substituted) aralkyl, a (substituted) amino, a (substituted) alkoxy, a (substituted) aryloxy, a (substituted) aromatic hydrocarbon ring, a (substituted) aromatic heterocyclic group, etc.; R1 to R8 are each H, A, etc.; with the proviso that R3 and R4 and R6 and R7 may be bonded to form rings, respectively; M is Be, Zn, Cd, Al, In, Sc, Y, Co, Cu, Sm, En or Tb; (n) is 1-3] and useful for a blue luminous material showing stable luminous characteristics and an organic electric field luminous element using the luminous material. The complex is obtained by reacting an imidazole derivative of formula II with zinc sulfate in ethanol.
