PURPOSE: To obtain an imidazopyridine derivative favorably being absorbed by alimentary canal and rapidly forming active body, exhibiting strong angiotensin II antagonism, having low toxicity and high safety, being stable to temperature and light and useful as a depressor.
CONSTITUTION: This derivative of formula I (R1 is a lower alkyl; R2 is a lower alkanoyl; R3 and R4 are each a lower alkyl or R3 and R4 are together bound in the ends to form a 3-6C alkylene), particularly 2-n-propyl-5-acetyl-3-[2'-(1H- tetrazol-5-yl)biphenyl-4-yl] methyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydroimodazo -[4,5-C]-pyridine-4- carboxylic acid/(3-pentyl)oxycarbonyoxymethylester is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II (Y is H or a protecting group), its salt or a reactive derivative in the carboxyl group with a compound of formula III (X is a reactive residue).
