Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide appropriate protection against Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes not found in the present pneumococcal 13-valent vaccine while maintaining an immune response against serotypes currently covered by the 13-valent vaccine.SOLUTION: The invention provides an immunogenic compositions comprising a conjugated Streptococcus pneumoniae capsular saccharide antigen (glycoconjugate). In one embodiment, at least one glycoconjugate derived from a Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype not found in Prevnar(R), Synflorix(R) and/or Prevnar13(R) is provided. Also provided is vaccination of human subjects, in particular, infants and elders against pneumococcal infections using the immunogenic composition.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
