To easily regulate a maximum load and a mean load in the case of compression molding by combining a sheet molding compound molding and a steel material in the impact energy absorbing material.
A side member of a vehicle is constituted of an inner side member 1 of a U-shaped sectional shape, and an outer side member 2 or the like for closing an opening of the member 1. An SMC(sheet molding compound) molding 3 is adhered to an inner periphery of the steel material of the member 1 to constitute an impact energy absorbing member. The molding 3 of the absorbing member contains an epoxy acrylate resin having 50 to 200 mg of hydroxyl group and an acid value of 5 mg KOH/g or below in terms of KOH/g and a polyisocyalate compound. Thus, a maximum load and a mean load when the member receives an impact to be deformed can be easily regulated.
