Abstract:
PURPOSE: To enable formation of an image having gradation and a stable quality by driving a platen by a platen driving means while driving a printing pin by a printing pin driving means, and by making the platen extend in the direction of approaching the printing pin, with an increase in the density that an image signal has.
CONSTITUTION: A printing pin 12 is driven by a printing pin driving means 16 and gives an impact force to paper 68 set on a platen 10, through the intermediary of an ink ribbon. The platen 10, driven by a platen driving circuit 18, extends and contracts in the same direction as the driving direction of the printing pin 12 and also extends in the direction of approaching the printing pin 12 with an increase in the density that an image signal S has. Since the platen 10 is constructed of a piezoelectric element, it extends in the direction of an arrow 20 in accordance with the amplitude of a driving pulse voltage impressed thereon from the circuit 18. The fore end of the printing pin 12 is machined to be conical, and a gap between the printing pin 12 and the platen 10 at the time when the pin 12 projects is regulated to be the one in which the fore end 12a of the printing pin 12 barely reaches the paper 68.
