Abstract:

To provide an implant with a surface that significantly reduces the activation of blood coagulation causing formation of a biofilm and thrombus.

The implant includes an implant substrate coated with a thin layer of a coating material. The coating material contains chemical compounds of one or more metals (M) of group IV A of the periodic table, nitrogen (N) and oxygen (O). In the coating material, voids form 2-45% of its volume, and their size lies in a range from (0.4 nm)3 to (50 nm)3, the remaining volume being constituted of a composition of a metal of group IV A of the periodic table, nitrogen and oxygen in a ratio 1:(0.1-1.7):(0.1-1.7), so that a material is obtained having the formula MNxOy, wherein x, y=0.1-1.7.
