PURPOSE: To obtain an antimicrobial composition excellent in processability and product characteristics by chemically modifying at least the particle surface of an antimicrobial substance prepared by making silver as an antimicrobial metal absorbed on a carrier and converting the surface into a parent matrix.
CONSTITUTION: The antimicrobial substance is obtained by making at least a silver component as an antimicrobial metal absorbed on a carrier (porous titania is especially preferred) and chemically modifying the surface of the resultant antimicrobial titania gel particles so as to convert the surface into a parent matrix, i.e., modifying the surface with a component such as a silane coupling agent, a titanate coupling agent or a matrix-metal adhesive. This antimicrobial substance is improved in the dispersibility in the matrix and capable of preventing physical properties of a material from deteriorating by further quantitatively mixing the antimicrobial substance and providing the material having excellent physical properties by the mixing.
