PURPOSE: A rubber composition suitable for pneumatic tires for use on a snowy or frozen road, prepared by mixing natural rubber, polyisoprene rubber, butadiene/styrene copolymer rubber, butadiene rubber, or (halogenated) butyl rubber with a specified diene rubber.

CONSTITUTION: A rubber composition prepared by mixing 50W90pts.wt. at least one rubber selected from the group consisting of natural rubber, polyisoprene rubber, butadiene/styrene copolymer rubber, butadiene rubber, butyl rubber and halogenated butyl rubber with 10W50pts.wt. diene rubber having a styrene group content (x) of 0W25% and a 1,2-vinyl bond group content (y) of 0W50%, and the following relationships between x and y: [(y-5)/x]>2 and [(y-50)/x]≥-(5/2). Preferably, the above rubber composition contains 40W100pts.wt. reinforcing carbon black. When this amount is below 40pts.wt. the wet surface grip and abrasion resistance are decreased, while when it exceeds 100pts.wt., the abrasion resistance is decreased undesirably.
