Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compd. in high yield, good in process stability and useful as intermediate for preparing pigment, etc., by hydrolyzing benzal chlorides under the specified conditions, then recycling an acidic phase to the next batch and recovering the obtained benzaldehyde from org. phase.

CONSTITUTION: The objective compd. represented by formula II is obtained by adding water at 20-160°C in the presence of sulfuric acid, mixing benzal chlorides such as the compd. represented by formula I (where R is fluoride, chloride, bromide, NO2 or SO3H; (n) is 0-4) and optionally with a part of water at the temp., recycling all or a part of acidic phase to the next batch after completion of hydrolisis reaction and recovering the obtained benzaldehydes from org. phase.
