Title:
IMPROVED RESILIENT METALLIC FRICTION FACING MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH04266993
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an improved porous resilient metallic friction facing material having excellent abrasion characteristics and durability by heating a green compact comprising metal particles, carbon and a transient organic binder, and subsequently infiltrating the vapor of a metal having a low melting point thereinto.

CONSTITUTION: A green compact comprising (A) about 30-80 (wt.)% metal particles composed of Cu, Al, Ni, Cr, an iron-based metal, an alloy, a mixture thereof, etc., (B) about 5-40% carbon and (C) a transient organic binder is formed. This green compact is heated to remove the binder to obtain a partially fused porous intermediate. Then (D) the vapor of a low melting point metal composed of Zn, Cd, etc., is infiltrated into the intermediate to make an alloy of the components (A) and (D).
