Abstract:

To provide a transcritical refrigeration cycle improved in system efficiency on condition that an additive capability generated is larger than an increase in power requested to produce sub-cool.

A refrigerant is compressed in a compressor, and heat is released from the compressed refrigerant at supercritical pressure in a gas cooler. The cooled compressed refrigerant is then expanded in a first stage to first temperature and pressure conditions in an economiser, and then expanded in a second stage to second temperature and pressure conditions. A stream of refrigerant from the economiser at the first temperature and pressure conditions is then compressed in a first stream in the compressor, and the refrigerant at the second temperature and pressure conditions absorbs heat in an evaporator, and then compressed in a separate second stream in the compressor.The first and second compressed streams are then combined before passing to a gas cooler, or the first and second compressed streams pass through separate gas coolers before being combined.
