To provide a means suitable for assuring a more uniform dwell time of a charge in an aging apparatus and the stability of a visbreaking residue.
In the visbreaking method for a liq. heavy hydrocarbon charge, the charge is heated to a temp. suitable for at least partially causing the cracking of itself, is introduced into the bottom part of an aging apparatus 3, moves upward through the apparatus 3, and is discharged from the top of the apparatus 3 toward a fractionation plant. In the aging apparatus 3, a plurality of annular disks 5 are installed separately from each other and transversely to the direction of flow of the charge. These disks 5 contain a circular central passage 6 which is almost coaxial with the apparatus 3. The charge flows through the passage 6 from the bottom part to the upper part and circulates in the apparatus 3.
