IMPROVEMENT IN STABILIZATION OF ISOTHIAZOLINONE PREPARATION

PURPOSE: To enable the preservation in a diluted state at a specific concentration or below by adding a specific stabilizing compound such as hydroquinone to an aqueous solution of 3-isothaiazolinone. CONSTITUTION: A compound represented by formula II [R, R<1> and R<2> are each H, a linear, a branched or a cyclic alkyl, aralkyl or aryl; A is O or N; Z is ARx , R<1> , R<2> , an alkoxymethylene, etc.; (x) is 0 or 1 when A is O and is 1 or 2 when A is N; (y) is 1 or 2], preferably hydroquinone, benzoquinone or quinhydrone is added to an aqueous solution of a compound represented by formula I (X is H or a halogen; Y is an alkyl, an alkenyl, a cycloalkyl, an aralkyl or an aryl; R is H, a halogen or an alkyl) with <=8wt.% total content thereof, e.g. N-metyl-isothiazolin-3-one or N-methyl-5-chloro-isothiazolin-3-one. When the composition is stabilized only with a metallic nitrate, the compound represented by formula II is added to enable the stabilization in a diluted form.
