Abstract:
PURPOSE: To attain the fast coloration of a contact lens partly colored in its surface and to reduce its production cost by adding an effective amt. of a guaternary phosphonium salt to a coloring liquid.
CONSTITUTION: The bonding of a reactive dye with a polymer lens material is intensified by adding the effective amt. of the quaternary phosphonium salt to the dye during a coloring stage. The quaternary phosphonium salt includes, for example, tetra-(C1-C4-alkyl) phosphonium halide and more particularly salts which are bromide and chloride. The coloring liquid preferably has at least pH 10 and the temp. is 30 to 60°C when the coloring liquid is applied to the lens. The process is executed by keeping the coloring liquid at 30 to 60°C, putting the contact lens material into the soln., taking the contact lens out of the soln. after the previously selected time and removing the unreacted soln. The coloring liquid may contain a halotriazine dye (for example, chlorotriazine dye).
