Abstract:

To prevent smoldering of an ignition plug, in a direct injection internal combustion engine for directly injecting fuel in a combustion chamber, generating stratified air-fuel mixture around the ignition plug and performing stratified charge combustion.

A fuel injection valve 11 and the ignition plug 12 are disposed to approximately center part of an upper surface of the combustion chamber, and a cavity of double structure of an outside cavity 4a and an inside cavity 4b is formed in a crown face of a piston 4. When seen from above, a side wall of the inside cavity 4b is positioned outside in a cylinder circumferential direction of a whole part of a tip of the ignition plug 12 projecting into the combustion chamber.
