Abstract:
PURPOSE: To promote mixture with air by a method wherein fuel spray is widely dispersed in a combustion chamber space. CONSTITUTION: When a lift amount of an intake valve 5a exceeds a given value, the upper side of fuel spray is collided with the umbrella back of the intake valve 5a, and the lower side is prevented from collision therewith. The spray direction and the spray angle of a fuel injection valve 7 are set in such a manner that the more a lift amount is large, the more a collision ratio is increased. Fuel spray colliding with the umbrella back of the intake valve 5a produces dense air-fuel mixture in the vicinity region A of an ignition plug 8 and fuel spray not colliding with the umbrella back flows over the flow of intake air to promote mixture with air and is dispersed in a lower region B different from the region A.
