To prevent contraction of a spray of fuel so that at least a part of the fuel spray surely and directly reach a spark plug.
A cylinder injection type spark ignition internal combustion engine has an inward opening type fuel injection valve for spraying the fuel into a combustion chamber in a hollow cone form. Wall faces extend from the vicinity of a fuel injection hole of the injection valve toward a fire part of the spark plug to function as wall faces for guiding the fuel spray. The fuel injection valve is arranged so that at least a part of the fuel spray injected from the fuel injection valve in a compression stroke moves along the wall faces while keeping a predetermined distance from the wall faces, and air-fuel mixture formed from the fuel spray which has moved along the wall faces directly reaches the fire part of the ignition plug.
