To eliminate the need for detecting the timing of trouble occurrence in an apparatus for locating a trouble point in a power plant based on the output of sound collecting means disposed at least three points.
With anemometers disposed at positions p, p1, p2, a relative difference in a reach time of noise of trouble occurrence is multiplied by the velocity of sound to determine a relative difference in a distance between a trouble point P and each of the positions p, p1, p2. Assuming that the trouble point P is located at the position of an angle θ on arcs R1, R2, R3,... with a radius of e1 around the coordinates (px, py) of the position(p), the radius el and the angle θ are changed to change the distances el1, el2 and, with the distances el1, el2 determined based on the known coordinates (px, py), (p1x, p1y), (p2x, p2y), the radius el and the angle θ are changed until the sum of squares of the residue from the measured difference becomes minimum. It is thus possible to locate the trouble point P only from the relative difference in the reach time, thereby attaining more simplified constitution.
