Title:
IN VITRO RENAL TUBULAR TISSUE SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3795900
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bio-artificial kidney device for providing a growth means in vitro in a transplantable renal tubular cell for avoiding the necessity of a long-term dialytic treatment as a result of substituting the kidney function for imparting a large profit to an ESRD patient by lengthening the remaining life of a patient, increasing the movement and flexibility, enhancing quality of life, reducing a danger of infection, and reducing treatment cost.
SOLUTION: This in vitro renal tubular tissue system is prepared by a process including cultivation of nephrocyte of an adult in the presence of any one of a retinol acid, an epithelium growth factor or a transforming growth factor-β. The tube formation is phenotype transformation of a cell performed so as to partition a lumen by a cell having a polarized epithelium phenotype and a tight junctional complex running along a lumen boundary by generating a concentrated agglomerate of a tubule cell around the center of the lumen. The bio-artificial kidney device uses this in vitro renal tubular tissue system.
