PURPOSE: To obtain a novel inclusion complex of clavulanic acid and hydrophilic or hydrophobic β-cyclodextrin.
CONSTITUTION: An inclusion complex is characterised by that a molar ratio of clavulanic acid represented by the formula or its pharmacologically acceptable alkali salt to a hydrophilic or hydrophobic β-cyclodextrin deriv. is about 1:1. The inclusion complex is used as an intermediate compd. when pure clavulanic acid or its alkali salt is isolated and a stable sustained release preparation contains the inclusion complex. Further, the inclusion complex consists of clavulanic acid and its pharmacologically acceptable alkali salt and a hydrophilic β-CD deriv. or a hydrophobic β-CD' deriv. A galenical reparation being a medicine useful for treatment of infectious diseases is composed of a combination of the inclusion complex and amoxicillin trihydrate and has immediate action and sustained action. In the formula, R is hydrogen or an alkali metal.
