PURPOSE: To obtain an inclusion compound useful as a sustained release germicide having excellent handleability of a water-soluble germicide, stability, etc., capable of maintaining antimicrobial activity for many hours, comprising a watersoluble germicide and a specific phenolic compound.
CONSTITUTION: This new inclusion compound is obtained by reacting (A) a water-soluble germicide such as 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3--one (CleMIT) of formula I with (B) a phenolic compound of formula II (R is 2-4C alkylidene) or formula III (R1 and R2 are 2-4C alkyl) at 10-30°C for 0.5-24 hours. For example, an inclusion compound of 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol/Cl -MlT=2/1 (molecular ratio) is obtained by using Cl-MIT as the component A and 2,4-di-tert- butylphenol as the component B.
