Abstract:

PURPOSE: To increase damping ability by providing a multiplicity of grooves of the specific size on the surface of a metal material, crushing the grooves through plastic working and impregnating resin therein.

CONSTITUTION: A multiplicity of grooves of a width less than 1/10 the thickness of plate blank are provided through machining by tools on the surface of a pure Al plate blank. After the Al plate blank is rolled to crush its grooves, it is impregnated with the resin having viscoelasticity such as epoxy resin or the like. while the logarithmic damping factor of the unworked Al blank is about 1×10-2, the application of the abovementioned working increases the damping factor 20 to 50 times.
