Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the operability, to reduce the number of wires and to improve the reliability, and to reduce the price of the encoder by energizing a position detection head, a comparator, and a reversible counter with their internal power battery when external power supply is cut off. CONSTITUTION:A magneto-resistance element 2, the comparator 3, and the reversible counter 4 are energized with the electric power of the internal battery 8 or an external battery 10 even when the normal external power supply 9 is off, not to mention when the power supply 9 is on. Consequently, a rotary shaft 1a rotates and variation in its rotational angle is converted by the magneto-resistance element 2 into an electric output signal, which is counted and integrated by the reversible counter 4 through the comparator 3. When the power supply 9 recovers, a driver 5, a control part 6, and a communication interface 7 are also energized with electric power and the control part 6 comes to function to read the contents of the counter 4 and also write external data in the counter 4. At the same time, data can be sent out of the encoder 13 and received through a transmission line 11 through the interface 7.
