PURPOSE: To obtain the subject apparatus effective for shortening the treating time of a sample and reducing electric power consumption and useful for gene amplification reaction, etc., by heating and cooling a reaction vessel in definite sequence using plural heating and cooling media controlled to different temperatures.
CONSTITUTION: Plural media 2a, 2b, 2c for the heating or cooling of a reaction vessel are controlled to different temperatures. The media are made to independently contact with a reaction vessel 4 in definite sequence to enable the control of the reaction vessel 4 at different temperatures according to the heating and cooling sequence with the media 2a, 2b, 2c. Concretely, in the case of gene amplification reaction, the blocks 2a, 2b, 2c containing the media are controlled to 94°C, 54°C and 72°C, respectively, and the reaction vessel 4 containing a sample is successively brought into contact with the blocks 2a, 2b, 2c to effect the thermal denaturation of the sample at 94°C, the annealing of the primer at 54°C and the synthesis of a DNA chain at 72°C.
