This compound is expressed by formula I (R1 is a haloalkylsulfonyl, an alkenylsulfonyl, a phenylcarbonyl, etc.; R2 and R3 are each H, halogen, an alkyl, an alkoxycarbonyl, etc.; A and B are each an alkoxy or an alkyl; X is O or S; Y is H, an alkyl, etc.; Z is N or methine), e.g. methyl 1-chloromethanesulfonyl-1-3{[(4,6-dimethoxy-2-pyrimidinyl) aminocarbonyl]aminosulfonyl}-1H-indazole-4-carboxylate. The compound of the formula I can be produced by reacting a compound of the formula II with a compound of the formula R1-L in a solvent or in the absence of solvent optionally in the presence of a base. The compound exhibits excellent herbicidal activity against broad-leaved weeds such as polygonum, redroot pigweed, smooth pigweed and Indian mallow, cyperaceous weeds, true grass weeds, etc., over a wide growth range from the preemergency state to the growing stage.
