PURPOSE: To shorten the shaft length of a device by integrating a rotary actuator into the circumferential wall part of a casing.
CONSTITUTION: In an index device, an rotary actuator 3 is positively rotated in the state where a joint member 4 engaged with an index shaft 2 is reciprocated and engaged with the output shaft 3a of the actuator 3, and the actuator 3 is reversely rotated in the state where the joint member 4 is reciprocated and engaged with a locking member 11 fixed to a casing 1. The output shaft 3a of the rotary actuator 3 is formed into a cylinder for enclosing the fitting part between the index shaft 2 and the joint member 4. A vane is protruded on the outer circumference of the output shaft 3a, and an actuator chamber 3 c for receiving the vane is integrally formed on the circumferential wall part of the casing 1.
