To provide an indicator capable of variably displaying index pitches without using expensive electronic parts or many components.

A scale plate 4 is composed of a top scale plate 2 vertically overlapping a bottom scale plate 3. The top scale plate 2 is provided with an index positioning window 17 and a mask section 18, and the bottom scale plate 3 is provided with a plurality of indexes 19 and a background section 21. The indexes 19 of the bottom scale board are displayed in the index positioning window 17 of the top scale board 2 in a mutually different prescribed pitch corresponding to the change of the rotation move position of the bottom scale board 3 with regard to the upper scale board 2. Since only two plates of the upper scale plate 2 and the bottom scale plate 3 are required as the components of the scale plate 4 even when the pitch of the indexes is made variable in three or more stages, complexity of the structure due to the increase in the variable display patterns of the index pitch is eliminated, and decrease in the number of parts and cost reduction is achieved.
