To reduce consumption and discharge of fuel of an engine and improve homogeneity of fuel mixture stored in a combustion chamber.
This indirect injection type supercharged engine has a cylinder 10 including a combustion chamber 12, two intake means 14, 16 including pipes 18, 20 controlled by intake valves 22, 24, fuel injection nozzles 26, 28 attached to each intake means 14, 16, and an exhaust means 30 provided with an exhaust valve 32. This engine operates in accordance with intake mode for scavenging burned gas and intake mode without scavenging. In the intake mode accompanying with scavenging, the air mixed not with carbide is supplied into a combustion chamber 10 through the intake means 16 on one side, and the air mixed with carbide is supplied into the combustion chamber 10 through the intake means 14 on the other side near the end of scavenging. In the intake mode without scavenging, the air mixed with carbide is supplied into the combustion chamber 10 through both intake means 14, 16.
